Five and a half years ago, I ran my first ever esports tournament in Stratford, London for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. What started as just a small event to have fun with every couple of weeks, became bigger and bigger. I met new people, travelled around the country, and did far worse than someone playing competitively for five years ever should.

I wanted to shine more light on this growing community – show what the many small grass roots organisers were doing around the country, display the wider variety of talent we had in this game from commentary to the best players we had.

In October 2022, I wrote my first article for Esports News UK. The Smash Ultimate Community in the UK had travelled out to Vienna, Austria for an annual major event – Vienna Challengers Arena with a young player from the UK set to take on the #1 player in Europe – and an article that was way too long for its own good – was made.

From there I continued to cover Smash Ultimate, and began branching out to cover more Fighting Game events – VSFighting announcement for 2023, a list of Street Fighter 6 locals across the UK and even interviewing the best Tekken 8 players in the UK. I even got the chance to cover the first game to ever get me into the esports scene when Dota 2 returned to Birmingham in 2024.

Now, I’m starting on a new journey with a similar goal to when I started writing for Esports News UK. To shine a light not just on Smash Ultimate within the UK, but now the wider Fighting Game Community in this country as a whole and be able to cover a wider variety of games within the genre. From the long time heavy hitters such as Street Fighter and Tekken, to newer titles just released like Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and Rivals of Aether 2, as well as looking to the future with DLC releases and 2XKO.

…and even being a bit biased and looking at title I’m personally looking forward to such as Virtua Fighter 6 and Combo Devils.

There is so much to be able to cover from home grown events such as VSFighting and Regen, to how the UK performs at out of country tournaments especially with huge events such as EVO France and UFA right around the corner.

Thank you for reading, and I hope to build out this site to be the top place to stop for any news relating to the FGC in the UK and to work with community members in each game to keep it up to date with news, events and results.
