With 2025 coming to a close, it’s time to look towards 2026 and the new games, DLC and even films that it brings with the new year.

Street Fighter Movie

Releasing in 2026, the cast of the Street Fighter movie was released earlier this year with the likes of WWE stars Cody Rhodes as Guile and Roman Reigns as Akuma announced as part of the cast alongside New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Hirooki Goto as E. Honda and UFC fighter Alexander Volkanovski as Joe.

There are also big names joining the film, which many will recognise from DC movies with Polka-Dot Man David Dastmalchian playing the titular villain M. Bison and Jason Momoa joining as Blanka.

Andrew Koji, known for his role in TV series Warrior will be playing what seems to one of the three main characters for the film Ryu, with Noah Centineo as Ken and Callina Liang as Chun-Li as the other main characters for the film.

The film is set for a theatrical release on October 16th 2026

Mortal Kombat II Movie

With the fourth film in the games long history, Mortal Kombat II returns to cinemas with a direct sequel to the 2021 film.

Returning cast reprise their roles from the first film such as Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang and Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden.

Joining them is Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, who is no stranger to video game adaptation films having also starred in the Doom film from 2005.

Mortal Kombat II is set to release on May 15th 2026

2XKO

2XKO has had a lot of news drop in the past few weeks, with a new trailer at The Game Awards 2025 with news of the game making the jump to consoles, more specifically PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, in January 2026.

The team also announced news of how it would be supporting the competitive scene, with 5 Majors and 15 Challenger events throughout the year with the Season 1 Major being Frosty Faustings at the end of January and Genesis, Texas Showdown and Viennality in February and March.

They also announced an in game competitive themed skin set, where a portion of all proceeds will go towards supporting TOs all over the world with tournament costs and prize pools

Tekken 8

No news of the next season of updates for Tekken have been released at this time, but are more than likely going to take place during the Tekken World Tour final on the weekend of January 29th to February 1st.

However, Katsuhiro Harada recently announced he would be leaving Bandai Namco at the end of 2025 after over 30 years of working at the company and being the head and face of Tekken for so many years. His exit lines up with Tekken’s 30th Anniversary.

Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter is in a similar position to Tekken, where we currently have no news of the next batch of updates, but is expected to be announced at Capcom Cup 12 in March.

There is still some controversy surrounding the Capcom Cup, with the announcement that the event will be pay-per-view for the finals with full details still yet to come as Capcom makes adjustments due to the backlash.

Virtua Fighter 6

The last update we received about Virtua Fighter 6 was back at Tokyo Game Show in September, as Virtua Fighter 5 Revo World Stage was released to all modern consoles with cross play enabled. The final event for Virtua Fighter 5 appears to be The Open Championship in early March 2026 where we can expect news of the next title.

RGG however has been facing a lot of backlash from their core Yakuza/Like a Dragon audience for a number of decisions they have made in the past year with re-makes and rereleases of Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 being forced as the only option to play those titles and removing older titles from storefronts.

On top of this, the highly anticipated Yakuza Kiwami 3 has had many fans announcing they will be boycotting the series following the hiring of Teruyuki Kagawa as a likeness character in the game. Videos and images have resurfaced following Kagawa’s return to acting, after he was shunned from the industry do to acts of sexual assault and harassment to hostesses in 2019 which came to light in 2022.

Invincible VS

The superhero fighting game based on the superhero Amazon TV show based on a superhero comic book finally got a release date and a trailer showcasing a new character.

The new character, Ella Mental, has not yet appeared in the TV Show and so this may be many fans first introduction to the character.

Invincible VS is set to release April 30th 2026 with 11 characters currently announced.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Marvel Tōkon has not had any updates following the end of the closed beta period, and is noticeably absent from the EVO 2026 line up, which may indicate a potential release date for the highly anticipated 4v4 tag fighter.

EVO 2026

Speaking of EVO 2026, the event recently announced its line up for tournament play at the Las Vegas event in June.

2XKO and Rivals of Aether 2 join the line up officially, after being side events at the previous year. Invincible VS will be the newest released title to join EVO with it being available to all in April.

Mortal Kombat is also absent from EVO, but it is not the first time the title has been removed from the line up, with Mortal Kombat 11 being not making the EVO 2020 line up.

Other Titles

An announcement people are still awaiting more information on is the Avatar Legends fighting game. At the moment we only have a trailer to go off of with no more news at this time.

A title people are anticipating a new sequel for is the Super Smash Brothers series. With Ultimate just passing its 7th year of release, many are hoping for the next sequel to come sooner rather than later. With Sakurai finishing his YouTube series and Kirby Air Riders releasing, we could see news from Nintendo in 2026 about a release for the next title in 2027.
