USG Gaming Festival

Two major events for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate took place in France in late May and saw a number of UK players for travel over to France to take part in both King of Fields 95 and Uzes Symphonic Gaming Festival.

95 King of Fields #5, The European Major Tournament, returned for its 5th edition at the Rue des Bouquinvilles on the 24th to 25th May. The major was just shy of 400 attendees, with 399 players battling it out for a prize pool of $5000 euros. Several notable players from the UK stepped up to the gauntlet, including Luuigi, Skaws, Mondi, Benathan, Shaneak, Kirb0, and Ascro.

Uzes Symphonic Gaming Festival was held on May 31st 2025 at the Rue du Pré de Savy in Uzez. This unique event was held as both a tournament for Super Smash Bros Ultimate with both singles and doubles brackets as well as Rivals of Aether 2, while also acting as a gaming festival with live orchestral music. 308 players attended the festival, featuring several UK players for both singles and doubles including Luugi, Ascro, Kirb0, Mondi, and Benathan.

At 95 King of Fields #5, Luuigi, seeded in 6th for the entire bracket, would place the highest of UK Players, finsihing in at 5th with solo Luigi and being the only UK player to reach top 8. He soared through pools and top 64 on a win streak against Gprime, Alasauce, Wael, MoDzai, AndresFn, and MKBigBoss. Unsurprisingly this was not Luugi’s first successful run at the King of Fields tournament, having previously been runner up to Gluttony at 95 King of Fields #3 back in 2023. This was the end of Luuigi’s run however as he was beaten by crepe salée in Losers Quarters, then defeated by Mezcaul in Winners Semifinals.

Shaneak finished at 9th place, beating high ranking players like Oryon. He had some respectable losses against MKBigBoss, and Gluttony, the previous winner of King of Fields #1 and #3. Kirb0 finished at 13th, only dropping games to fellow UK players Skaws and Shaneak.

Ascro came in at 17th Place, while Skaws finished in 33rd place, both making it to top 64 while Mondi and Benathan both finished at 65th place.

Sparg0 ultimately won 95 King Of Fields 5th tournament, securing 1st place with Piranha Plant, rather than his main Cloud. This switch to a secondary character makes this the first major to be won by Piranha Plant.

At Uzes Symphonic Gaming Festival, once again Luuigi would place the highest of UK players, coming in at 7th. He beat the likes of Raarchyor and MkBigBoss to make it to top 8. His victory streak was cut short by Miya, who would go onto win both the singles and double tournament who beat him in winners quarters, he was then knocked out of the tournament by MKLeo. Other UK placements at the event included Ascro finishing at 25th place, while Kirb0 and Benathan both finished in 33rd place with Mondi and Hexer placing at 65th.

While Kirb0 may have come in last amongst the UK players for singles, he rose above them all in doubles to come in at 3rd place. He played alongside French player NightPixL, a fellow Kirby main. The duo were beaten by Miya and Tea – once during Pools, then again during Losers Finals.

Meanwhile fellow UK players Luugi and Mondi teamed up in doubles to finish at 5th place. The pair would then face and lose to MKLeo and MKBigBoss. Their final match was a loss against fellow UK player Kirb0 and his French teammate NightPixL in Winners Semi-Finals.

Both the singles and doubles tournaments were ultimately won by Japanese player Miya. He fought alongside fellow Japanese player Tea in doubles and won the tournament by beating the Mexican duo of MKLeo and MKBigBoss. Miya and Tea would meet again in grand finals during the singles tournament, where the live orchestra played “Megalovania” from Undertale during their climatic final match where Miya beat Tea to secure his place as the ultimate victor at the Uzes Symphonic Gaming Festival.
